Classes at Bonhomme

Sunday Growth Hour (9:45 am)

I & II Peter [Curt Ruhlman, Room 3208]

A study of the First and Second Epistles of Peter. Originally addressed to persecuted believers of the first century, these words encourage us to face trials with a living hope, certain of Christ’s return, and wrn us of the danger of false teaching and spiritual laziness. We will take these same lessons written for those believers and seek to find their practical use by us in our time.

Sermon Discussion Group [Jim Graham, Room 3224]

In this class we will study the scriptures used in (or relating to) the sermon with attention paid to background, context etc. We then move into a discussion of the sermon message and application to our lives.

Key Events in the Life of the Historical Jesus [Tom Hobson, Room 3226]

One of our ECO values is a “Jesus-shaped identity”. What exactly does that look like? We need to take our cues from the historical Jesus, who he really was, not one we have created according to our own wants and wishes. This class will examine the historicity of some landmark events in the life of Jesus, using both historical evidence and logical criteria of authenticity for the content of our Gospels.

Dust to Glory [Jim Keim & Terry Grogam, Watson Chapel]

This is a video lecture series by RC Sproul. Week 1:   Creation The Image of God in Man.  Week 2:   The Fall Covenant with Abraham. Week 3:   The Patriarchal Blessing Moses & the Exodus.  Week 4:   The Passover The Giving of the Law. Week 5:   The Tabernacle Aaron & the Priesthood. Week 6:   Old Testament Sacrificial System Joshua & the Conquest of Canaan.

Making All Things New: Lenten Group Leaders Preparation [AmyRuth Bartlett, Community Room]

“We live in a worry filled world, occupied and preoccupied with many things, while at the same time feeling bored, resentful, depressed, and very lonely. In the midst of this world, Jesus Christ appears and offers us the life of the Spirit of God. The spiritual life is not beyond our everyday existence. No, the spiritual life can only be real when it is lived in the midst of the pains and joys of the here and now. If we are willing to live a life of prayer and practice the disciplines of solitude and community, we will discover the power of our worries weakening as all things are being made new.” Are you interested in deepening your own spiritual life and inviting others into a deeper relationship with Jesus as well? Join us Sunday morning, Wednesday or Thursday evening to enter into these disciplines and prepare to lead a small group to do the same throughout Lent.

Kingdom Parents: Becoming a Tech-Wise Family [Don Everts & Adam Stirrit, Room 3205]

The exponential growth of technology and social media has left parents dizzy and struggling to understand how exactly to live (and parent!) faithfully as a Christian in the digital age. Science is telling us more and more about the effects (good and bad) of this digital life on our developing children. Can the Bible shed any light for us on this area? Join us as we work through Andy Crouch’s helpful new book The Tech-Wise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in Its Proper Place.

Five Psalms to Carry Through Live [Don Everts, Room 3205]

The opening of the Psalms celebrate that the one who “meditates” on God’s word day and night is like a tree planted by water. But how can we meditate on something so big? Come spend time handling five simple Psalms that (by end of class) we hope to “know by heart” so that we can carry them through life with us – day and night.
